507lb Man Dies, Didn’t Like the Zoo

There’s very little to this story outside of the title, but the gist of it is as follows. Thomas Lessman, a 507 pound German, who was too heavy to use any hospital equipment graded for humans, died of unknown causes after he refused to be taken to the zoo to be examined on an elephant X-ray machine.

The man had claimed he was frequently ill and constantly going in and out of consciousness, and had gone to the local clinic for an examination. The clinic had to refer him to the zoo, which he absolutely refused to do. Lessman’s widow stated, ““It sounded like they were trying to wind us up… He felt so ashamed when they said he would have to go to the zoo to be X-rayed. He simply refused.”

The clinic would recommend that if you’re going to gorge yourself, you stop at around the 200kg mark, so you may still be accommodated by machines designed for people.
